The Crystal Ball…

May 18, 2009

The name I picked from the crystal ball was …

Dewey Nicks

dewey

A fashion photographer, commercialand short film director, as a young boy Nicks was exposed to glamour and eccentricity and became intoxicated in it all, from trips to Hollywood with his family. His passion for Fashion and art drew him to study photography in California.

Nicky has worked for many labels and magazines, including Vogue, Marie Claire, Roxy, Puma and many more. He has also created classic advertising images for clients including Tommy Hilfiger, Guess, and Polo.

In 1995, Nicks added Commercial Direction to his resume. An Ameritrade spot in 1999 garnered him the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival Award for “The World’s Funniest Commercial.” That same year he became a Director’s Guild nominee for outstanding directorial achievement in television commercials.

The Brief: Dewey Nicks is your brief, absorb your self in his life and

create whatever you want but using Nick’s as the inspiration.

I decided i would put myself in Dewey Nick’s “fashion shoes”. See what its like to be present at a photo shoot… so i did my own.

These were only a few of the shots taken. I was inspired by his use of bright bold colours and have shown this in my own way, i then decided to take the project further and make a garment out the photo’s i had taken.

Cereal Box

May 14, 2009

Easter Project: design a cereal box and make a 30 second commercial to go with it.

I started researching and collecting boxes and realised that so many are aimed at children. The only adult cereal available was plain and boring or organic. This is when i realised my box needs to be a fun cheeky adult cereal.

and this is what i came up with ….. …

ADULTABIX !     ”cereal-ously sexy”   His and Her nibbley bits, fruity flavoured naughty shapes.

Start to semester B project : 9 surrealist statements

May 5, 2009

after watching the film “Eraserhead”  three times i had finally decided that there wasnt really any thing to understand from the plot of the film, exept the admiration of how David Lynch had created this wird and wounderful film, purly of things he had put together, the time and effort he put into the film and the way he had finaced it (by him-self).  The film puts you in a very strange state of mind and with that our next project takes place :

Taking inspiration from the films “Eraserhead” and “Helvetica” you must now produce one of the following:

1. a set of nine surrealist typographic statements.

2. a minute long surrealist typographic film.

In  college i did a project on Surrealism, so i already knew a bit about it. I also reserched the definition of  a statment:  The act of stating or declaring, with this knowledge i came up with these statments.

High School Musical 2 – end of semester project

May 5, 2009

Brief : High School Musical 2. THE BALL IS IN YOUR COURT.

After watching High School Musical 1 and 2, i came to the decision that the film expresses the wrong messages to teenagers in how they should look and act.  It portrays sex appeal and social stereotyping. I feel that young kids watching this want to aspire to these characters, and nowadays they can with high school musical outfits, jewelry, wigs, dolls etc… there is just about everything u can buy in this brand.

so being very against High School Musical i desided to make my own “branded” voodoo dolls.
